Quantum science: why the quality of the food we eat, and our beliefs around it, matter

Updated: Oct 14

Imagine sitting down to a meal where every ingredient has been chosen with care - wild herbs foraged from the forest, vegetables grown with care and harvested by hand, food prepared slowly and with love.

Following on from my blog about food as an expression of how we care for ourselves, I want to share how I try to live this in practice - how I use food to care for myself, and how it becomes an act of love and connection when I cook for my family, friends, and the guests who join me on retreats and at events.

But before I do that, I'm curious - how do you feel about the food you eat? I'd love for you to pause for a moment before reading on, to notice your own feelings around food - what comes up?

My values around food

For me, food should be:

  • Natural

  • Sustainable

  • Nutritious

  • Delicious

Over the years I’ve learned that these values align with something I’ve always felt deep down - that food carries energy. What it means to us, and the way we relate to it, truly matters.

I want the food I eat to be as natural, sustainable, and environmentally kind as possible. Ideally, it comes from soil that’s cared for and replenished, not depleted - grown with methods that feed both the plants and the planet. That’s how we end up with not only healthier vegetables but a healthier environment too.

And for me, that doesn’t mean eating entirely plant-based. I choose animal products that come from creatures raised humanely and with respect - or better yet, wild. I believe this way of eating supports both our bodies and the wider ecosystem when done consciously.

Beyond nutrients: the energy of food

Science helps us understand macronutrients and micronutrients - the proteins, carbs, fats, vitamins, and minerals our bodies need. But quantum science takes it a step further and reveals something we’ve always intuitively known: that food carries life force energy.

Organic and freshly picked foods emit more “living energy” - measured in biophotons - than their processed or long-travelled counterparts. In other words, a carrot pulled from a local farm carries not only more nutrients, but also a higher vibration than one sealed in plastic and shipped halfway around the world. And wild foods? They’re the most vibrant of all. (No wonder I love foraging — it’s not just free food, it’s truly alive.)

Belief and biology

Quantum science also tells us that what we believe about our food shapes how it interacts with our bodies. Two people can eat the same meal - one believing it’s nourishing, the other convinced it’s “bad” in some way, perhaps unhealthy, unethical or "healthy but unpleasant" - and their bodies will respond differently on an energetic level.

So when I choose food that I believe is good for me - natural, wholesome, alive, food that is natural, sustainable and nutritious - I’m not just nourishing my body; I’m reinforcing that belief through every cell.

Food as connection

To build on that even further, quality and freshness are part of what makes food delicious and nutritious, of course, but so is the energy we bring to it. When we prepare food with love and presence, when we pause to appreciate and give thanks before eating, we enhance digestion, absorption, and satisfaction, and once again raise the energetic vibration of that meal.

It’s this intention I try to bring to meals - whether I’m simmering a wild mushroom soup or plating up a colourful breakfast. The food isn’t just there to fill you up, nourish your body physically; it’s part of the healing that also nourishes your soul. It’s a way to reconnect you with your body and the rhythm of nature.

And I think it goes without saying now that finding the food we eat delicious is also important. If there's no joy, there's no connection either, so really and truly - is there even any point?

Bringing it to life

So I'll ask the same question again now - how do you feel about the food you eat? Are we in alignment? Has your perspective shifted? I'd love to know your answer!

For me, it's more than just fuel for the body; it’s energy, connection, and a conversation between body and soul.

And that's not to say it's how I eat every meal, every day - the reality is somewhat different in today's modern world and lifestyles and I always want to stay realistic (there's no judgement here!) But this is how I try to eat as much as possible, to care for myself, my body and those I love. And it's how I prepare food on my retreats and events too - to maximise the nourishment everyone receives.

If this way of thinking about food resonates - if you’re craving a deeper sense of connection to what nourishes you, inside and out - I’d love to welcome you to my retreat in Sweden this January.

You’ll experience this philosophy come alive: food that’s natural, wild, and prepared with care; meals shared around the fire; laughter, stillness, and the simple joy of remembering how good real food - and real connection - can feel.

Food for thought… and for the soul.

With love and alchemy,

Catherine x
